Estelle Junius received first place in the Boerewors Competition and is crowned at Hart van Windhoek festival which was hosted in Windhoek at the end of September 2011. Here is an account of Estelle’s journey to the final and what it entailed: Namibia held its second Boerewors competition in August 2011 with the finals that took place on 17 September at the Hart van Windhoek festival. I entered my own secret Boerewors recipe. We were 33 contestants that took part in the semi-finals in August, where we had to braai our own ‘Boerewors’ and it was judged by the Namibian Chef’s association. 15 Finalists were then selected to compete against each other at the Hart van Windhoek festival. At the Hart van Windhoek, we had to braai our ‘Boerewors’ again and again it was judged by the Namibian Chef’s association, with the addition of two South African judges. At 17:00, all 15 finalists appeared on the main stage where the winner was announced. 3rd - Arno Malan 2nd - Fanna Du Raan 1st - Estelle Junius I walked away with a brand new Toyota Aygo and plenty of other prices. It was really fun and a good experience. I hope that this will motivate more people to enter next year as the prizes will just get bigger and better. This competition was made possible by Shoprite & Checkers. Social Responsibility Sense of Africa supported the Bandana Day held on the 12th October 2011. 90 bandannas were sold within the company and the funds were contributed to the collection for The Sunflower Fund.
