News l March 2011 Sense of Africa Our core value this month is passion, therefore we share two memorable experiences enjoyed by Sense of Africa colleagues. 3 lucky ladies from Sense of Africa team and 6 other women from different companies attended a 4x4 Driving Course. We stared the day off with breakfast and a briefing. An audiovisual presentation followed, providing us with tips, advice and a number of video clips to highlight certain elements of driving. After this we put theory into practice. The breaking distance of a vehicle being the big focus, as well as the speed we travel. On return to the main building, we got to know our vehicles and enjoyed a refreshment. We were then split into three groups, for in-car training around town. After lunch, we were taught some practical tips on handling our 4x4 vehicles, in certain circumstances, to ultimately avoid accidents. Each person had the opportunity on the track to test her vehicle. They taught us how to handle our vehicles on wet roads when the vehicle oversteers or understeers. The breaking time was also completed, to show how long it takes your vehicle to come to a complete stop. With ABS (anti blocking system), one can still steer out of trouble, but without this, it is impossible as the wheels lock up. Lastly, they placed us in a scenario, where we had to avoid an accident. This was very fun and the practical advice provided was really helpful and interesting. One does not realise how many things we do incorrectly on the roads and how often we put ourselves at risk. This course is highly recommendable. Secondly two Sense of Africa employees, were awarded tickets to UB40 concert. These tickets were kindly donated to us by a local supplier. All employees interested in attending the concert, had to justify why they should be awarded the tickets – here is how the lucky winners reacted after securing their hold on the VIP tickets: "I have never been lucky enough to win a thing in my life and it would be a dream come true, if given this opportunity. Be my lucky star******!" Here is feedback of the experience from the Staff members who were awarded the UB40 Concert tickets, namely Anja and Marshall: “Attending the show alone, was a wonderful experience, but being granted the opportunity to do so "in style" (VIP) We arrived, looking fabulous as VIP Ticket Holders should and were escorted by a security guard to our VIP booth. It was energetic, fun filled and relaxing at the same time. We sang along to every song and every single person that came to perform...finally when the stars of the evening came onto the stage, we were screaming and crying and doing everything that would make any celebrity proud. Overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, we will carry this memory for life. UB40 rocked! Now I’m also of the existence of the Hope Village and its beautiful children. Thank you Paul our MD, Kalahari Sands for the tickets, Sense of Africa and thank you UB40 for being so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had the time of our lives..........” Namibia News Otjivero Dam is overflowing into the White Nossob River, for the first time in 28 years.
