Cape Cross Seal Reserve

Cape Cross was proclaimed a reserve in 1968 to protect the largest and most well known of the 23 Cape Fur Seal colonies that breed along the coast of Southern Africa.

It is also the area where the Portuguese navigator Diego Cao erected a stone cross in 1486, commemorating the first European to ever set foot on Namibian ground.
