SKELETON COAST PARK:
Skeleton Coast Park
The Skeleton Coast Park was proclaimed a National Park in 1973
and extends northwards from the Ugab River to the Kunene River,
covering an area of 16400 km². The attraction of this remote
area is brought about by the untouched landscapes of windswept
dunes, rugged canyon walls and extensive mountain ranges. Animals
do occur on the plains, ranging from springbok, ostrich and
brown hyena whilst giraffe, lion, black rhino and desert - adapted
elephant roam the dry river courses.
Accommodation is provided at Terrace Bay, previously a diamond
mining settlement. The Northern section of the Park is a tourism
concession and restricted to one fly-in safari only.
